By now, this will have become boring but obligatory. At PJ Tatler, Charlie Martin looks at a new email dump that reveals a lot more insider commentary on what to include and exclude from the evidence to support the hockey stick graph, and how to massage the data into conformity with the desired results (via Insty).
Just as interesting are revelations that James Hansen somehow forgot to declare $1.6 million in outside income (evidently for “consulting”) over a period of several years, as required by his NASA contract.
But then again, as we have seen in the Stevens prosecution scandal, accountability is for the little people.

We can only hope that Hansen becomes more arrogant and self-entitled. Maybe then he will lose whatever political protection he has and be pushed into retirement from NASA.

My God, how?

That’s an excellent question and one I can’t answer. The guy clearly isn’t doing much that can be construed as “science” anymore, so he’s not keeping his position at NASA based on that. He must have political benefactors, therefore the only way we’ll be rid of him is if he pulls something so embarrassing that they refuse to continue to cover for him. I’m betting on more financial fraud.
