In the annals of dumb business decisions, this has to be one of the dumbest ever. PruPaine examines the story from all the relevant angles, including the company’s being publicly traded, its investiture policies regarding employees, the harm that the Occupiers are doing to local businesses at some of the locations where they’ve assembled in mass, and all the rest.
The company, in an act of deep sacrifice, shut down their Oakland store to show solidarity with the general strike Occupy Oakland had called for. In 2009, as Pru recalls, they removed their advertising from the Glenn Beck show in response to the Van Jones-led boycott.
In related Kabuki theater, Occupy Oakland protesters briefly shut down the Port of Oakland, yesterday, and inspected trucks passing through their territory before waving them through. Which is odd, when you consider that the Longshoremen and Teamsters are supposed to be allies in . . . oh, wait.
I hope that the shareholders of Smug Whorehouse sue.
It turns out as well that the Marine-hating Marine vet at Occupy Oakland who was injured, by a rubber bullet that later became a tear-gas canister, may actually have been beaned in the head by a bottle or other projectile hurled by angry Occupiers at riot police.
Chris Tingles thinks that Obama needs to start “recruiting an army” and that he “needs troops.” That’s the kind of heated rhetoric that got Gabby Giffords shot, isn’t it?
