Since we who work on the right side of New Media are fond of complaining that there’s very little money here, I wanted to share a success story.
The problem is real: we have financiers, such as the Koch brothers, and they do good work. However, the money from large right-wing donors is much less likely to make it into the hands of free-market-oriented bloggers than George Soros’s funds are to help the lefties out. Our largest funders tend to support foundations and established publications, rather than independent operators.
This brings us to Zilla of the Resistance, who has been in the dire financial straits that most of us are facing during the Obama downturn, and was stricken by the flu—and a sick little girl—at the same time the power company was threatening to turn off her electricity (which, in rural areas, means no heat or water).
Being the gentleman that he is, Peter I Da TechGuy called Ms. Zilla’s plight to the attention of Professor Reynolds—another true mensch—who helped out personally and also bestowed an Instalanche upon the young mother, who has been able to “catch up” on the power bill completely, due to reader contributions.
And . . . her little girl is getting better, as well.
Well done, New Media! One more year to go, my friends.

Thank you so much, Joy, and indeed, thank you to fellow bloggers and blog readers who came to the rescue! The power bill is caught up now, which of course will make it easier to manage in the future without the eternally snowballing ‘past due’ behind each invoice!
I am still trying to catch up on all the thank you emails, and then I need to catch up on the linkery from all the nice people who blogged on my behalf.
I’ll be sure to include your lovely post too. Thanks for helping to get the word out that we’re going to be OK now
I took my girl to the doc today, she has an ear infection, which is weird since she never complained about an earache (tough kid) but they think that’s what got her so sick. Go figure.
When I told my husband about how people who we’ve never met blessed us, I swear I saw ten years of aging melt right off of his face. He works really hard and I know it was killing him that no matter how long the hours or dirty the work, we could never get out from under that burden.
The Dextrosphere made a miracle happen for us, and I’ll never forget it. Makes me want to work harder and be better so I can maybe play a part in helping a miracle to happen for some other blogger who needs it. You know?
Sorry if my blog is giving you trouble to comment, DISQUS is a kooky thing, my friend Gunny has trouble commenting there too.
If you want to send me your email addy, I can try to get DISQUS to let me manually whitelist you so maybe it won’t be so fussy.
Wonderful.
