but not as much as it loves President Obama.
Word is starting to leak out that the devastation wrought by Hurricane Sandy is much worse than most of the MSM seems to want to show. While liberal talking heads are touting the wonderful performance of President Wonderful. We're seeing lots of shots of the long lines at gas stations off the Jersey Turnpike, but we now have reports of New Yorkers dumpster diving, roving gangs of yute on Coney Island robbing stores and pharmacies and terrorizing the older ones who are left, unreported numbers of bodies bobbing in the water on hard hit coastal areas like Coney Island, slow-to-no responses of FEMA and the Red Cross.
He's just lucky he's not George Bush, I guess, or political opponents might be demagoguing this.
As these reports arise, I'll probably just dump them in here.
UPDATE: Wow! NBC reports on people upset in Staten Island, where they believe they're not getting as much help as wealthier parts of Metro New York City.

Regarding the Staten Island folks, you have to wonder why those people were not evacuated, actually. The predictions were for a 13' or so Storm Surge. If they were in an area that would be flooded by that, why did Bloomie let them stay there? (Shades of Ray Nagan, perhaps?)
Otherwise, if they were in a mandatory evacuation area and stayed there, why should we feel sorry for them? If they aren't smart enough to leave when they are told that they may well die if they stay where they are? That's kind of like the fools who sit tight and let the lava from the Volcano cover them up, isn't it?
Think of it as evolution in action, and don't be in too much of a hurry to get the relief supplies in to them. We might actually manage to increase the average IQ in this country, if we do that on a regular basis.

I'm not as hard core as all that, but you know, people who get themselves in stupid trouble and have to be rescued in National Forests and the like often have to pay for the service.

I'm probably not that hard core myself, truth be told. That being said, however, it can be noted that all of the sob stories about poor old granny and the cheeldren suffering tend to chap my azz more than a little. As sorry as I may feel for them, I have to ask the question that nobody in the media seems to bother with.
"Why were they there in the first place?" The supposedly responsible parents, adult children, and assorted other responsible parties put these people in a postion that directly led to the problem.
It could also be noted that leaving young children in a car in the heat can in fact be grounds for a homicide charge. Does not driving them into the middle of a flood equally qualify as negligent homicide?
Just saying.

River flooding isn't the same, naturally, but when we know it's going to happen here in the Upper Midwest, beforehand volunteers are out filling sandbags and afterwards they're helping their neighbors clean up, yet we still hear the, "why do you stupid people live in a flood plain?" criticism from people who live in places where strong hurricanes regularly hit and cause tens of billions of dollars in uninsured damage.

To be fair, it's taken them three days to get in front of cameras and scream, "Where are the feds?!" whereas after Katrina, I clearly recall that it took New Orleanians five hours to do so.
It doesn't help that their own mayor gave them the finger and held a marathon while they were dumpster-diving, either.
