The IRS has announced that extremely high traffic is causing the “Where’s My Refund?” tool to be unavailable for some taxpayers at times this season. This affects both the “Where’s My Refund?” tool on IRS.gov and the refund feature on the IRS2go phone app.
Of course, this likely doesn’t come as a surprise to most tax professionals: complaints about the system being down have been steady since tax season kicked off on January 30.
Yeah, this is one of the reasons that I keep a close eye on things so that I no longer get tax refunds.
But why might I be bringing up this issue of not being able to handle the easily-anticipated demand for a particular service? Especially since the knowledge of people's anxiety over tax refunds goes back decades, as opposed to an entirely new service that might (or might not) be unveiled in the near future?

They can't anticipate the bandwidth demand for that kind of app at this time of year, but if you download music without the copyright holder's permission, they can find your ass in a heartbeat.
